Tony Danza has found the Fountain of Youth, and it's made out of carbs. The former Who's The Boss? star recently shared his food diary with Grub Street, and it quickly became apparent the man's a creature of habit. He starts almost every day with the same breakfast — and no, it's not Cheerios. Or oatmeal. Or birthday cake-stuffed French toast.
Before his morning workout — a combo of interval training with weights and cardio — he grabs a glass full of Metamucil (getting in fiber to keep his digestive system running smoothly), then follows up his gym session with a banana ... and three breadsticks. That trio's pretty much the norm, and while two-thirds of it is pretty healthy, it's the carbs he's really looking forward to each day.
"The breadsticks are addictive, but I control it with a banana," he wrote. It's so commonplace that by the end of the week, it's "the banana-breadstick thing" in his diary.
Now, health and fitness experts would probably say Danza's youthful appearance has something to do with his regular workouts, but we'd like to believe the banana-breadstick thing plays a part in it, too. That and his other vice — everything parmesan'd.
He ate chicken and eggplant parm six times over seven days, sometimes twice in one day. He typically orders it from Alleva, the cheese shop he co-owns in New York, or at Patsy's (also in NYC).
"Everything, lately, is from my store," he said. "I used to cook!"
Hey, when you're the boss, you call the shots. And if that means chicken parm all day, every day, so be it.
