Even though winter means hot cocoa, holiday cookies, and hearty soups, we have to admit that there's a huge downside to the colder weather months: dry skin. Instead of blowing all your money on expensive moisturizers and body lotions, why not battle dry skin with something you're already buying? I'm talking groceries.
Kat Burki, CEO and founder of Kat Burki Skincare, has a few tricks up her sleeve for eating your way to softer, smoother skin. "Less refined and less processed high quality olive oil and avocados are both amazing for dry skin," she says. In addition, fish, quality nuts and seeds, broccoli, spinach and kale are also extremely helpful.
While you're loading up on those foods rich in Vitamin K, you might want to cut back on caffeinated drinks like coffee and soda, which will actually make dry skin worse. "Caffeine acts as a diuretic removing fluid from the body," says Burki.
Whether you have super dry skin, or naturally oily skin, Burki suggests that you keep dinner light and before 8 p.m.
