You've heard before that mayonnaise, as odd as it sounds, makes an excellent substitute for oil in your favorite chocolate cake recipe. But now there's a new condiment cake recipe making its rounds on the Internet, and this one took us completely by surprise: Apparently, ketchup cake is now a real thing.

Last week, Reddit user Big_Black_Cat, a.k.a. Greg Nuttle, posted a photo of a Canadian Heinz ketchup bottle, Brit + Co reports. On the back of the bottle, he had found a suggestion to make something called the "Great Canadian Ketchup Cake." For real.

If ketchup cake does, in fact, sound vaguely familiar to you, it might be because the Heinz recipe has actually been around for a few years now. The brand first introduced it back in 2009, in celebration of the company's 100th anniversary in Canada. Plus, tomato soup cake has been around since the 1920s or 1930s — and thats basically the same thing... right?

Luckily for all of us curious bakers, Nuttle tried whipping up the ketchup cake recipe after his Reddit post went viral — and he posted his final taste test to YouTube. Believe it or not, his verdict was that the Great Canadian Ketchup Cake is actually "pretty good!"
