You've heard of the cronut, possibly the cragel (a croissant bagel hybrid), and now get ready to worship at the alter of the Mufgel—a mashup of a bagel and a muffin. This thing of beauty is the latest creation of "Bagel Artist" Scot Rossillo, who is the Brooklyn baker/crazy genius who is also responsible for inventing the rainbow bagel and the cragel .
Rossillo came up with the idea for the Mufgel—which has been on sale at The Bagel Store in Brooklyn since late July—after listening to this Quick Draw radio commercial making fun of the food hybrid craze.
With a crunchy muffin-like top and a soft and chewy bottom, the Mufgel comes in a variety of sweet and savory flavors that are changed on a regular basis.
There is the Fruity Pebbles Mufgel, seen here with Funfetti cream cheese.
The Chocolate Chip Crumb Mufgel is also a thing.
This is what the Chocolate Chip Mufgel looks like stuffed with Oreo cream cheese and a Pookie.
The Pookie, by the way, is another one of Rossillo's hybrids that combines pie crust and cookie dough.
A Carrot Cake Mufgel also exists.
Savory options include a Mozzarella Cheese Pizza Mufgel, which is seen here with sun-dried tomato cream cheese (and tastes better than it looks, we imagine).
You can also get a Bacon Egg and Cheese Pizza Mufgel, which obviously calls for even more bacon egg and cheese on the inside.
If you'd like to try the Mufgel for yourself, you're going to have to get to The Bagel Store early because they only make a few dozen of them a day and typically sell out by the time they close.
