It's been a while since I've seen a cake that has truly wowed me as much as it enticed me to consume it. This wedding dress cake is gorgeous, but it's so realistic and I'm confused about how to go about stuffing my face. I really never thought anything could compare to that gorgeous, rich beauty that is the cake featured in the childhood classic Matilda. That, my friends, is the cake of my dreams.
Dessert-lover Heather of Sprinkle Bakes has made the most magnificent cake I think I've ever seen (sorry Bruce Bogtrotter)
Using black velvet cake for the inside, she even includes little white star-like sprinkles to emulate a sparkly starry galaxy. The result works perfectly.
The process of creating the nebula does look fairly painstaking, but I'm mesmerized by the details. If you plan on taking this on yourself, you'll need a sea sponge, a fine point brush, parchment paper, and plenty of funky-colored food dyes. I'm sure once you get to the sponging and painting it becomes less painstaking, more inner artist.
The result is worth it. The feeling you'll get of cutting into this edible galaxy to reveal the decadent black velvet cake with its little stars and beyond rich chocolate flavor... I can feel the exhilaration already. I know what I'm making this summer.
