There's nothing better than fast delivery. By the time I place my order on GrubHub, it's obvious that I'm already borderline hangry, and now I have to wait – gasp – 45 minutes minimum for some nice delivery man to motobike my sushi to me stat. Life can be really, really trying sometimes.
Domino's hears our woes, and is working to change the status quo of delivery.
Titled "Project 3:10," Domino's Australian branches are working on perfecting the art of some record fast pizza production and delivery services. Through some clearly magical technology, the chain is capable of creating an entire pie in three minutes, and delivering it to your door in ten. Because who doesn't want a MeatZZa Feast and some Stuffed Cheesy Bread within ten minutes of the thought "let's order in tonight?"
"It's being rolled out as we speak," Don Meij, CEO of Domino's Australia, told Mashable Australia. "It was planned, thought through and tested until Christmas. We already have six stores enabled, and now we're full steam." Which hopefully means: "we're coming to America next."
So how exactly does a pie come together in three minutes flat? Meij wouldn't go into detail about this breakthrough, but he explained that these new "smart" ovens push convection and radiant heat onto the pizza at the "right point at the right time" as the pizza goes along the conveyor. This is in comparison to their older ovens that could cook a pie in 7 minutes and 15 seconds. LAME.
While the technology behind the oven isn't Domino's, the thinking behind it and how to apply it to their damn-fast pizza baking process is. And that's science I can get behind.
Creeped out by how quick these pizzas come together? Meij hears you. "Ultimately, it's still a fresh product. We're using older style technology, but with a modern twist." Embrace the meaning of speed. Bet you can't make a personal pizza in three minutes, although I certainly commend you for trying.
