Chipotle better get it's act together and stop making people deathly ill because there's a new chain in town – er – that is ready to take it's spot in our Mexican-loving hearts. Taco Bueno just won best Mexican fast food eatery in America, according to Market Force Information's annual quick service restaurant study. That's enough to pique our interest as to what makes their burritos the best.
A regional Tex-Mex chain, Taco Bueno now ranks as America's favorite Mexican fast food chain, beating out national chains Chipotle and Qdoba who tied for first place last year. It also beat out Rubio's Fresh Mexican and El Pollo Loco.
With only 157 locations in seven states (compare that to Chipotle's 1,500 all over the country), it's a lot smaller than competing contenders, so this is a big win for the little guy.
The first Taco Bueno opened in Texas in 1967, so it's no newbie to the Tex-Mex game. The chain believes in fresh products, making their salsa in house and boiling their beans overnight to re-fry in the morning.
Want a taste of the #1 Mexican chain in America? They've been franchising since 2005 and have been opening up in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, and Louisiana. With Chipotle struggling to make amends with their customers, maybe now is the chance for Taco Bueno to strike up some new openings.
But what we really want to know is... is the guac extra?
