The first struggle of using chopsticks, for those of us who didn't grow up in an Asian culture or regularly eating Asian cuisine, is figuring out how to keep them from sliding out of your hand. The second struggle is trying to actually pick food up with them. Then comes eating noodles without getting a cramp in your hand.
The internet has solved yet another chopsticks dilemma: where to put them between bites. If you rest them along the dish, they slip off and probably fling wasabi toward your companions in the process. Rest them on the table and you get gunky sauce all over the place. Press them directly upright into your food and you risk offending any Japanese people present.
But a little trick was unearthed by the meme-generating Instagram account @browncardigan. Behold:
When you break off the little chunk of wood holding the pair of sticks together, don't toss it aside. Let it be the perfect pillow for your utensils. How easy! Give it a try next time you're slurping up some lo mein.
