Wedding cakes can be tricky: They have to look beautiful but also taste delicious. So when we spotted this stunning amethyst geode-inspired wedding cake by Intricate Icings, our jaws dropped.
The beautiful pastry is so much more than a dessert—it's a work of art. And while it may seem like the sort of thing that's for display only, the whole cake is actually completely edible."The geode is made from rock candy that I then crafted with modeling chocolate, hand painting, and gold leaf," explained baker Rachael Teufel on Facebook.
The crystalized cake took 16 hours to make, but countless hours were spent planning its intricate design. "I was given several pieces of inspiration to draw ideas from, including actual geodes, a beautiful illustration, and a variety of table decor items like plates, chargers, and geometric floral arrangements," wrote Teufel on the Intricate Icings blog. "I knew I wanted to create a show stopping cake and use the geode as the focal point creating an awe-inspiring visual experience for the guests."
Well, it looks like Rachael's careful planning paid off: While the cake was designed an industry event—the launch of First Look Events and Moss Denver, a new Colorado venue—it certainly stole the spotlight. Over 39,000 people have shared the below image since it was posted to Facebook.
