Some say online dating is a meat market, but Oscar Meyer's
newest dating app takes that to a new level of literal. Sizzl is the newest way for bacon-lovers to connect across the nation (sorry vegetarians). It's hard to tell whether Oscar Meyer really wants to turn up the heat on your love life, or if someone at Kraft is just really lonely.
As a bacon lover myself, it seemed like a little investigative journalism was in order. Similar to other dating apps, Sizzl asks you to share a little bit about yourself including sex, interest and, most importantly, what kind of bacon is your favorite. Based on your preferred bacon-type, you are prompted to answer a series of questions such as "If you're on a date and there's one strip of bacon left, you ... a.) Take it, obviously, b.) generously give it away or c.) split it." These questions are essential to "find your bacon lover." You'll be able to find aficionados of pork, turkey or both. Be warned turkey-lovers, there are a lot of pork-lovers out there, so you will have to ask yourself what you really want and decide if you're willing to settle.
Nearby matches will pop up using the GPS on your phone. A tagline may appear under the match's name and age (hint: bacon puns are the best). Pete from New York, NY really spoke to me with his line: "I like my ladies how I like my bacon—fairly hot and a little salty."&
Then, similar to the way you might press a sizzling, greasy piece of bacon to the frying pan; hold down the "Sizzl-meter" button to indicate your level of interest. If the match is mutual, you'll have the option to message your potential suitor. You can even shake the skillet to undo recent rejection of a match, because Oscar Meyer is all for second chances.
I'd say the hope to find love just got way more real ... and delicious. Maybe a universal love for bacon is just what the fates need to bring people together. According to Time, the app will only be available to download for six months, so get it will it's well ... sizzilin'. And if you can't find your human soulmate, there's always some food porn to get you through the long, lonely nights.
