Nearly three quarters of all Americans report using emoji every single day. They're everywhere. And we're lobbying to get more—like our beloved bacon and avocado, and the long sought-after taco emoji. We're even ordering takeout with emoji on Twitter. The bright-colored characters have become ingrained in our digital daily lives, which is why tech company SwiftKey decided to look at which emoji are used the most in America.
After analyzing more than one billion emoji, SwiftKey—known for its quick-type touchscreen keyboards—discovered which characters are the most popular in each state, from oranges to lollipops and even matcha green tea. The results, which included non-culinary emoji like taxis and the Statue of Liberty, were compiled into an interactive map. But the best of the bunch are the food-related emoji, which are both very telling and head-scratching depending on the state.
