Pabst Blue Ribbon, better known as PBR, has seen a surge in popularity over the last two decades—likely thanks to beer pong enthusiasts at college parties and bearded hipsters looking for a throwback to throw back. In the last year, the company has done some retro research of its own, looking to its roots and making plans to reopen in the city where it all began back in 1844.

Next summer, Pabst Brewing Co. will make the move back to the historic brewery in downtown Milwaukee, where its red, white, and blue brand was born. The original location was shut down more than 20 years ago, after which the company moved its operations and headquarters to San Antonio. But now it's finally returning home. The brand made its official announcement this afternoon, telling Twitter "we're coming back."

And PBR's new owner, Eugene Kashper, has some big plans for the old space: a microbrewery, beer garden, and restaurant complex. With this microbrew mentality, we can expect something new from the cheap beer brand that's known for its 16-ounce tall boy cans and boilermaker combos at dive bars—including small-batch suds like Pabst's iconic pre-prohibition brands (Old Tankard Ale, Kloster Beer, Bock, Andecker) and a few new brews as well.
