I'm all for pizza-slice pool floats and pepperoni bikinis, but when it comes to the real stuff I have to ask: What is the world doing to our beloved pizza? I thought Pizza Hut's hot-dog–stuffed pizza was the epic, albeit not-so-welcome, crust modification of the year. But another monstrous, saucey number takes things to a weird, unprecedented extreme and has sadly proven me wrong.
In Sweden, this so-called "pizza" at Nya Gul & Blå is called the Vulkan. But I'm not so sure it deserves the pie moniker. The beastly creation looks more like a six-pointed star that happens to be made from pizza dough. A small salad, fries, and dressing have been used to fill its center—you know, as one does. Then there's a strange amalgamation of calzone-like pockets stuffed with onions, mushrooms, pepperoni, and what looks like ham. It's so strange our staff hasn't really been able to look away, but we'd never order it. All I can say is:
