"What makes humans different from other animals?" asks Jeff in the pilot of Community. "We're the only species on earth that observes Shark Week. Sharks don't even observe Shark Week." Clearly he doesn't get it. The rest of the country will happily sit on their couches, half in a July 4 barbecue food coma and watch the sea creatures swim through deep blue waters for hours on end.
Luckily, Cold Stone is on our level. The creamery is already offering two themed treats ahead of Shark Week's official kick-off on Sunday, July 5. Head to your local shop and ask for either the Great Blue Cupcake, a chocolate cup filled with a layer of yellow cake and sweet cream ice cream, then topped with fluffy blue frosting and a gummy shark, or the Shark Week Frenzy, a scoop of blue-tinted sweet cream ice cream mixed with graham cracker pie crust and gummy sharks. Both will be available at shops nationwide through July 14.
According to the release, more than 30 million viewers tune into Shark Week on the Discovery Channel every summer. And this year there's a bonus for shark and ice cream lovers: Cold Stone will be giving away a getaway to the Bahamas for four guests. To enter, share a photo of your Shark Week creation on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and use the hashtag #SharkWeekFrenzy. For more information and official sweepstakes rules, head to the Cold Stone website.
But if you'd rather not miss a minute of the underwater adventures, you can always whip up your own two-ingredient no-churn ice cream. That way you can save the gummy sharks for booze-infusing.
