Walmart, you goofed. Like really, really screwed up.
Last week, after a failed attempt to purchase a sheet cake decorated with the Confederate flag, Louisiana man Chuck Netzhammer decided to play a prank on his local mega mart by requesting a custom cake emblazoned with the Islamic State (ISIS) battle flag. He then posted a video on YouTube to prove his point even further, asking "Does Walmart support ISIS?"
Since the shootings in Charleston, SC, Walmart became one of many American companies to halt production of all Confederate-related merchandise in an attempt to avoid offending anyone. (The store denied Netzhammer's Confederate cake by marking his request form with "Cannot do cake because of picture.") Unfortunately the big box-store brand inadvertently offended many by obliging Netzhammer and his facetious black-flag plan. Unsurprisingly, the company immediately came under serious fire for the politically plagued dessert.
Walmart has since apologized profusely, explaining to ABC News that the associate who made the cake didn't know what it meant. It's a fair mistake (CNN was confused too), but Walmart should probably consider a more effective vetting process for its cake orders.
