Burger King Japan's newest creation has us seeing red. Already a purveyor of black burgers, the chain is now dealing in a red version, officially known as the Aka Samurai (Beef or Chicken) Burger, which will be hitting stores July 3.
The Aka burger ("aka" = "red") will feature red buns, red cheese and a hot sauce (dubbed "ANGRY sauce") made from miso and hot pepper, according to The Wall Street Journal. The red buns and cheese were made by adding tomato powder to give the sandwich a fiery glow. The chicken version will cost 540 yen ($4.40), while the beef is going for 690 yen ($5.57).
I'm confused about a few things. How does just adding tomato powder make a bun THAT red? Why is the sauce so ANGRY? But my biggest question is the simplest one: WHY do we need a red burger in our lives? While I wait to get these questions answered, I guess I must applaud the chain's creativity in its quest for burger dominance.
