After ordering a three-piece chicken tender meal from a Wilmington, California, KFC, Devorise Dixon noticed there was something off about one of his tenders. He posted the below photos to Facebook claiming that when he bit into one of the pieces "it was very hard and rubbery which made me look at it. As I looked down at it I noticed that it was was in a shape of a rat with a tail."
Though Dixon's first reaction was to seal the rat-chicken in a bag and put in in his freezer, he went back to the same KFC two days later. Apparently, a manager then confirmed to him that he'd indeed been served fried rat. Someone posted Dixon's photos to the official KFC Facebook page and got the following response: "We take all customer claims very seriously. We are looking into these allegations to ensure this matter is resolved as soon as possible."
Since then, KFC has been answering customer questions about the rat-chicken on all of its social media pages, tweeting that their official investigation did not yield rat-positive results:
They've also posted that they've been "aggressively trying" to reach Dixon.
All signs point to Dixon's chicken tender meal being 100% weirdly shaped chicken-chicken and not rat-chicken, but the photos are rattling regardless. Sorry. Had to. Enjoy:
UPDATE 6/23/15: After a DNA test conducted by a third-party independent lab, it has been determined that the suspiciously shaped piece of meat was not in fact a fried rat. The LA Times is reporting that according to lab results, the meal in question was "undoubtedly a piece of hand-breaded chicken."
Prior to this news, Devorise Dixon, who was served the questionable chicken, had hired an attorney. It is unclear whether or not he will continue to seek legal actions against the franchise.
A rep from KFC explained that they hope he goes even further than just dropping the issue, saying, "The right thing for this customer to do is to apologize and cease making false claims about the KFC brand."
