If the return of Clearly Canadian had you dancing in the streets, you might want to sit down for this news: Pepsi just hinted at the relaunch of Crystal Pepsi.
To refresh your memory, Crystal Pepsi was a caffeine-free, clear soda that hit the market in 1992. Though the transparent cola saw positive response on the outset, sales quickly fell, and the drink was discontinued in 1993.
Fast forward 23 years to April 2015, when competitive eater and internet superstar Kevin Strahle (also known as L.A. Beast) had a genius idea; what if we the people could unite in a campaign to bring back the beloved clear soda?
Using a #BringBackCrystalPEPSI tag and a change.org petition (which currently has over 34,000 signatures,) Strahle and co. started expressing their desire for the beverage's return all over the internet. And, it just may have worked.
On Monday, Pepsi responded to the ringleader with a positive, albeit cryptic, message.
"We definitely hear you and your followers and we think you'll all be happy with what's in store," they wrote on official Crystal Pepsi letterhead. The soda giant signed with a suggestive "Stay tuned." Oh, we will, Pepsi. We will.
