The classic cappuccino might be on its way out at Starbucks. The foamy favorite was on the original Starbucks menu back in 1986, but Business Insider reports it's no longer listed in many stores.
Starbucks shops in U.S. cities like New York and San Francisco no longer include cappuccinos on the menu, though they're still a posted option in London. Starbucks told Business Insider that menus look different depending on the location, because certain stores want to highlight different drinks and certain stores may not have every ingredient in stock (although in the case of cappuccinos, they're made with espresso and steamed milk). The company wouldn't say exactly why the cappuccino is falling out of favor, but it might be lower popularity or it might be that baristas have a tough time getting it right.
Instead, Starbucks is playing up the flat white, a hot drink popular in Australia that features two espresso shots and foamed milk. It's has the extra buzz and a stronger flavor from that second shot, plus it uses whole milk rather than 2 percent. But if you absolutely must have a cappuccino, don't freak out: Your barista will be happy to make it if you simply ask for it.
