Remember the crazy-spicy snack that swept Canada last summer (and gave us some hilarious #burnselfies)? Betting on U.S. success, Doritos Roulette has made its debut on American shelves today, which means the game of chance between Nacho cheese chips and their insanely red-hot counterparts are now available nationwide for a limited time.
The idea inside the bag is that hidden in every handful of tame, cheesy chips is one super-charged chip to catch you by surprise and turn up the heat. But just how many of the spicy numbers are there? And how hot are they exactly? To test the theory, we got our hands on several bags ($1.49 for 3 ounces, $4.29 for 9.5 ounces) and while we're not ones to gamble, we were feeling lucky.
After tasting our way through a few snack-size portions, the results back-up the brand's odds: One in every five chips was seasoned with that extra oomph. But we didn't feel they started a tiny fire on our tongues, as some of those hysterically cringing selfies would imply. Though it spikes for a second, the burn isn't so bad, especially because it doesn't linger very long. Plus, you can always follow-up with another handful and hope for more quelling bites of cheese.
