Vanilla is America's most popular flavor of ice cream. But we can do better than that, right?! To cool you down and perk up your palate, we spotted five new, scrumptious frozen treats in flavors you never would have thought of in your wildest dreams.
How many of these would you try?
1. Magnolia Ice Cream and Milkbars
In flavors like purple yam, adzuki bean, and halo halo (a kind of Filipino shaved ice dessert), this entire line of tropical-inspired ice cream is original, unusual, and delicious. Our favorites are the creamy avocado ice cream and the ultra-refreshing Thai tea milkbars, but we've been known to make a quick "lunch" out of the Thai tea and the lychee ice creams as well.
2. Haagen-Dazs Pomegranate Dark Chocolate Bars
This limited-edition flavor blows all other insipid ice cream bars out of the water. Its dense, almost chewy, pomegranate ice cream is rich but tangy, and covered in a perfectly crackly coating of dark chocolate. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah, there's an extra drizzle of dark chocolate on there too, if you're into that kind of thing.
3. Phin & Phebes Vietnamese Iced Coffee Ice Cream
This line of Brooklyn-based artisanal ice cream doesn't have very wide distribution…yet. Their Vietnamese Iced Coffee flavor has gotten lots of attention and we can see why. You think you've had coffee ice cream, but until you've had their Vietnamese Iced Coffee, you ain't tasted nothing yet. Notes of cardamom make the deep, dark coffee flavor really sing. Can't find it? Try ordering some from their site. Use the code: NewFoody for $10 off your first order.
4. Edy's/Dreyer's Outshine Coconut Water Bars
Okay, so these aren't brand-spanking new, but with the coconut water craze still in full swing, these are a more fun option for cooling you down and quenching your thirst. The flavor's so rich and coconutty, you'll wonder how this huge ice pop contains only 60 calories. Our favorite has bits of sweet pineapple dotted throughout.
5. Tea-rrific! Ice Creams
These elegant, but tasty, ice creams are infused with the sophisticated flavor of different teas (think rooibos, Earl Grey, green, etc.). The teas aren't used as some health gimmick either; you really taste the difference between each one. It's hard to choose our favorite among all the fantastic flavors — like the delicately sweet Chamomile, the cinnamon-peppery Masala Chai, and the spicy Ginger Matcha — but the unique London Mist, with its hints of lemon and milky Earl Grey, might just be the winner.
