Disneyland’s as well known for its churros as it is It’s A Small World, but over the past year, the House of Mouse has been taking its fried treats to the next level. Last spring brought yellow-gold churros, with a citrusy flavor that reminded people of Froot Loops or Fruity Pebbles. Then came red and blue Lightsaber-inspired ones, and the millennial fave, rose gold churros.
The concepts have gotten increasingly far out, which is what makes its latest addition to the menu all the more surprising: It seems long overdue. Starting April 13, Coco Churros will be available at Disneyland.
Inspired by the Pixar movie about a boy who travels to the Land Of The Dead to unearth a family secret, the churro is just as heavy — and sweet. It features the typical fried dough you’ve always known, only this time it’s dusted in a mixture of Ghirardelli chocolate powder, vanilla beans, and salted cinnamon sugar for a salty-sweet take on the treat. It comes with a spiced Mexican chocolate sauce for dipping, making this a close contender for Disney’s most decadent churro to date.
The dessert will only be available through Sept. 3, since it’s being offered as part of the special menu for Pixar Fest, the park’s ode to its CGI movies. It joins the lineup alongside strawberry churros, macarons shaped like the Toy Story aliens, and a couple riffs on Disneyland’s toppings-smothered funnel cakes. Good thing there’s a lot of walking to do at the parks, otherwise we’d easily morph into the humans from Wall-E.
