Papa John's and the NFL just ended their official partnership, and that means the football league needs a new official pizza. Make that needed. Pizza Hut swooped in to fill that void, ESPN reported.

Pizza Hut confirmed the news on Twitter with a new ad proclaiming they are the "official pizza sponsor of the NFL."

They detailed the new partnership in a statement on Wednesday. The multi-year partnership will begin during the 2018 NFL Draft, which happens to be located near the company headquarters in North Dallas. The partnership, which gives the company exclusive marketing opportunities, also includes all 32 NFL team logos, and Pizza Hut will work with the NFL on smaller local deals as well. The new deal will pop up on Pizza Hut packaging and products, its loyalty program, and a new push into beer delivery. A source told CNN Money that this deal is worth more than Papa John's deal was.

"The NFL and pizza appeal to the same demographic, which is everyone," Renie Anderson, the NFL's senior vice president of partnership and sponsorship management, told ESPN. "Fans watch our game and they do it around a pizza box. That's why it's one of the most important categories in sports sponsorship."

Pizza Hut is the biggest pizza chain in the United States, with more than double the number of stores Papa John's has. Last year, Papa John's founder John Schnatter blamed the company's low sales on NFL players protesting during the national anthem. Company stock fell, he apologized for his comments, and he later left his position as CEO. It was unclear whether his comments led to his exit from Papa John's—or the end of their sponsorship deal with the NFL. Papa John's will still advertise with specific local NFL teams.
