Update (26/2): Remember that poor woman who was forced to resort to Burger King for her chicken fix last week?
During a news report about the Great KFC Closure of 2018, one member of the public went viral after lamenting in no uncertain terms: "I've had to go to Burger King."
Well, after the two fast food giants picked up on the clip to have some fun at each other's expense, Burger King has now come in with a finger lickin' offer of its own – free chicken for a year.
When KFC joked that it had a Ricebox with her name on it, Burger King tweeted: "We'll raise your leftover Ricebox with a year's supply of fresh King Boxes! Someone put us in touch with her."
Not to be outdone, Colonel Sanders' crew responded with their own counter-offer.
"Putting all your chips on the table..bold move BK," it wrote. "When our chips arrive we will match your stakes and too put all our chips on the table. Until then we have limited chips."
So there we have it – whatever you might think of the KFC fiasco, it's certainly brought out the best in everyone's social media game. Kudos.
Original story (23/2): KFC has not had a very good week, has it?
Normally just the bane of vegetarians and animals rights groups the world over, the fried chicken restaurant faced the wrath of the Great British public after supplier issues caused a huge percentage of its UK outlets to close.
But this is where the fast food company's marketing department comes in, serving up a slice of humble pie with its hot wings as damage control:
The newspaper ad used humor (notice what it's done to its logo) to say sorry to customers and thank the staff members for dealing with the situation.
"A chicken restaurant without any chicken, it's not ideal," the ad reads.
"Huge apologies to our customers, especially those who travelled out of their way to find we were closed. And endless thanks to our KFC team members and our franchise partners for working tirelessly to improve the situation.
"It's been a hell of a week, but we're making progress, and every day more and more fresh chicken is being delivered to our restaurants. Thank you for bearing with us."
The social media team have also been having a laugh with rivals Burger King on Twitter:
Has the Great KFC Closure of 2018 been the absolute worst first world problem, or has it made you realize the gravy isn't as good anymore and you're more a Chicken Selects kind of person?
