It's here! After months of teasing us, Chip and Jo finally opened the doors to Magnolia Table, the pair's first full restaurant. The Gaineses bought Waco's struggling Elite Cafe after it closed in 2016 and promised to turn into into the ultimate breakfast and lunch spot. Now we can see they weren't kidding.
There are nearly 50 dishes to choose from, including pastries from Silos Baking Co., plus pretty hearty coffee and juice sections. Beyond classic OJ, the combinations (including one with mixed greens and another featuring pomegranate and watermelon) are much trendier than the rest of the down-home menu. All the usual breakfast suspects are there — eggs Benedict, avocado toast, pancakes — along with some eats for later in the day. The sandwich section is stacked with a pimiento cheese sandwich and two different burgers.
In traditional Gaines fashion, Magnolia Table pays homage to the entire family. Scan the menu closely, and you'll notice a dish bearing every member's name. (Baby No. 5 is missing, but we'd be willing to bet there'll be a nod to the new addition come summertime.) Jo's eponymous bite is her biscuits, served with either strawberry butter or sausage gravy. The recipe will be in the Magnolia Table cookbook, out this April. Chip's is his famous ham sandwich, which is really ham, cheese, and eggs on a croissant. Duke and Drake lay claim to one of the burgers: a beef patty topped with Havarti and onion jam on a brioche bun. Emmie's name is on a grilled cheese made with Texas toast, and Ella called dibs on something calling to our sugar-loving souls — cinnamon powdered donut holes served with warm chocolate dipping sauce.
As Jo revealed in the caption of her recent Instagram post, a portion of the produce served to diners comes from her home garden. And what doesn't is sourced locally, along with the meats and eggs.
If a trip to Waco, TX, isn't in your future, all hope isn't lost. Chip and Jo have promised that recipes for a number of the dishes served at Magnolia Table will be in the cookbook, too. Preorder the tome, already a bestseller on Amazon two months before its official release.
