Last September, Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, causing extensive damage and taking the lives of at least 64 people (by some estimates, the toll is more than 1,000). Chef José Andrés played a huge role in recovery efforts, donating his time and more than three million meals to Puerto Ricans in the weeks after the storm's destruction.

Those efforts were widely covered in the news and on social media, with Andrés himself regularly posting updates so others could keep up with the team's progress. While he and the other World Central Kitchen members left the island in October, they've continued to raise money and awareness for Puerto Rico in the months since. The help is still needed — four months later, more than 400,000 people remain without power in Puerto Rico.

Now, Andrés says he's working on a book about the experience. Details are sparse, but Andrés addressed it himself on Twitter. When a fan tagged him in a post last week saying she hoped he'd write about "what he did, what he learned, and what he'd want to fix" in Puerto Rico, Andrés responded by simply saying "The Puerto Rico book is coming..."

Based on the initial tweet and his response, it seems like it would be in the form of a memoir, though it's possible recipes could be involved too. Andrés, who also stepped in to help after Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and an earthquake devastated Haiti in 2010, surely has plenty of humanitarian experience to reflect on.

This would be the first book of its kind by Andrés, who has published two cookbooks, "Made in Spain: Spanish Dishes For The American Kitchen" and "Tapas: A Taste of Spain in America."

A spokesperson for Andrés said there are no further details about the project available at this time. It makes sense that it would still be in the early stages, given how recently the disaster happened and the ongoing recovery efforts. We'll update this story as we know more.
