Lime-A-Rita tweeted a backhanded compliment to Diet Coke Thursday after the soda company released new flavors that bear a striking resemblance to those of the Anheuser-Busch brand.

"Hey @DietCoke, we like your new look!" the account said, adding the hashtags "#Twinning #OOTD #FlavorGoals" and a side-by-side photo for comparison.

Twitter immediately erupted over the shade that was being thrown with a thread of appropriate GIFs and commentary.

In the tweet, Lime-A-Rita suggests that Diet Coke created something very similar to their flavors and can styles. The line of alcoholic malt beverages, which first launched in 2012, comes in lime, grape, lemon, strawberry, peach, and mango flavors, and has a silver can with a different color to represent each of the different flavors.

Diet Coke's new cans have a similar design, but the flavors are not all the same. The zero-calorie soda's new line features lime, mango, cherry, and orange flavors, that are called Ginger Lime, Twisted Mango, Feisty Cherry and Zesty Blood Orange. They also still have their original Diet Coke flavor, but in a new can. Coca-Cola said they spent years trying out more than 30 different combinations — from tropical to citrus to botanical — and tested them on more than 10,000 people when picking the new flavors.

Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America's group director for Diet Coke, told BuzzFeed News that Coca-Cola wanted to "make sure packages are Insta-ready."

"We love the essence of Diet Coke and we don't want to throw it away — just modernize it so we can re-express it for a new generation of fans," he added.

Diet Coke has not yet responded on Twitter, so we suspect that this war will fizzle out soon.
