Fast food chains are known to test new items in select markets, leaving most of the country drooling over what could have been. When we're lucky, the most delish-looking products eventually go nationwide, as is the case with Carl's Jr. and Hardee's Jolly Rancher Shake.

The candy-covered vanilla shake first tested in Los Angeles and Birmingham, AL last fall, and fans liked it enough to convince Carl's Jr. and Hardee's to roll it out nationwide. As of April 25, the Jolly Rancher Milkshake will be sold at both fast food chains around the country, so everyone can get in on the fun.

Along with the shake, both restaurants are rolling out a Memphis BBQ Thickburger (the name of Kylie Jenner's next lip kit color?) that's piled high with two different meats. The new burger starts with a black Angus beef patty and gets topped with smoked pulled pork, Memphis BBQ sauce, fried onions and cheese.

It's been a couple years since Freakshakes tried to render plain shakes obsolete, but fast food spots have managed to successfully stick with what they know: Classic flavors with great mix-ins. And if conventional is boring — think: peanut butter cups and Oreos — chains have done a good job of changing things up, with treats like Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and now Jolly Ranchers.

Starting November 1, Carl's Jr. and Hardee's are testing a Jolly Rancher milkshake — vanilla ice cream blended with bits of the hard candy and topped with whipped cream and even more candy — for a limited time. Only Los Angeles and Birmingham, AL residents will get a chance to taste it in this first roll-out, at Carl's Jr. in California and Hardee's in Alabama. Dropping Jolly Ranchers into drinks isn't exactly revolutionary, we're just more accustomed to seeing them in more adults-only cocktails (cough, vodka, cough) than kid-friendly sippers.

Carl's Jr. also dropped something new on its food menu recently. Its four $5 All Star Meals are what boxed lunch dreams are made of: One comes with a double cheeseburger, a spicy chicken sandwich, fries, a cookie, and a soda. Another comes with nearly the same spread, except a jumbo hot dog instead of a chicken sandwich.
