You are what you eat is a cliché for a reason: It's true. If you won't take it from us, take it from Jessica Alba. The actress and founder of Honest Beauty has what looks to be flawless skin, but when a breakout happens, the first thing she turns to isn't a cream or serum. It's a smoothie.
Alba's nutritionist Kelly LeVeque (she's Chelsea Handler and Emmy Rossum's health guru, too) is all about fighting inflammation, which can manifest itself as anything from tummy bloat to acne. And while she works with celebrities, she's become famous in her own right for her smoothie recipes. "I always turn to her for advice," Alba told Well + Good about LeVeque.
To combat skin flare-ups, LeVeque encourages Alba to drink a smoothie with omega-3 fatty acids to help hydrate, B vitamins to promote skin health, and other ingredients that repair and promote cell regeneration. Plus, with protein, fat, and fiber (three pillars of every smoothie LeVeque creates), it's enough to keep you full from breakfast to lunch.
Glowing Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder (organic pea or collagen)
- 1/4 avocado
- 2 tbsp. chia seeds
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1 small Persian cucumber
- 1/4 c. mint leaves
- 2 c. unsweetened nutmilk
1. Blend together and drink!
