Everyone knows that drinking can make people do crazy things. But one new survey shows a surprising correlation between what types of alcohol people drink — and what they wind up wishing they hadn't done later.
Researchers from Addictions.com surveyed 2,000 people to gain a little more insight on just how much of a turn a night out can take. Their findings backed up a few long-held beliefs, and unearthed some surprising insights, like the fact that 120 of the 2,000 admitted to causing a fire while drunk. Or that 66 people admitted to getting a tattoo while drunk.
There are regulations against tattoo artists doing work on people who are noticeably drunk, but that's not to say that some haven't done it anyway. (Just ask Demi Lovato.) According to the survey, four out of five people have woken up to find a tattoo on their body after a night of drinking did so after drinking beer.
Beer was also the drink of choice for people who got naked in public while drunk; three out of every four people who did so said they'd been sipping suds when they decided to strip down to their birthday suits. (Vodka came in second, with just over a third of the subjects admitting to waking up naked after drinking the liquor.)
And, for anyone who claims tequila messes them up, they're not alone: The study shows that it's the one alcohol that's the most likely to give you the hangover from hell. One in five participants revealed that drinks that included tequila and vodka triggered irritating after effects.
Obviously, your high school science teacher was right: correlation and causation aren't the same thing, so just because you drink tequila you're not doomed to have a terrible hangover, and just because you enjoy a hoppy IPA doesn't mean you're destined to go streaking at some point. Still, the patterns in people's behavior can be eye-opening. View the rest of the study results here.
