Target, the shopping emporium known for magically emptying your wallet — even when you swear you're just dropping in for some toothpaste — has found a new way to rid you of your paycheck. Starting Sept. 3, you can buy one of five bottles of wine ... for just $5 apop.
Sure, that's almost twice the price of Trader Joe's Charles Shaw blend (AKA the vino formerly known as Two Buck Chuck), but these Cali blends could give the classic ballin'-on-a-budget wine a run for its money. Target's new line is called California Roots, featuring three white wines and two reds. As part of the chain's announcement, it also provided pairings for each variety. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
Cabernet Sauvignon
Christina El Moussa likes to kick back at the end of a long day with a glass of red. You may not have the marble-topped kitchen or hit HGTV show, but hey, you can enjoy a decent cab. Stars, they're kind of — a little — like us!
Try it with: our boyfriend steak (Ahem, no boyfriends were harmed in the making of said dish.)
Chardonnay
It has a crisp finish, and really, there's no better way to toast to rewatching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights. Tami Taylor would approve.
Try it with: artisanal cheeses and freshly baked bread ... hey, this Bread In A Bag totally counts as classy if you serve it with manchego, right?
Moscato
Giggle juice doesn't demand a budget-killing bottle of wine. This is the perfect fit.
Try it with: Fresh berries — ideally ones that have been soaking in said Giggle Juice. Trust.
Pinot Grigio
When you love the lightness of white wine but can't handle Moscato's sweetness — or the suburban mom connotations of Chardonnay (uh, not that there's anything wrong with that) — this is your go-to.
Try it with: salads and fish, like this lemon-glazed salmon
Red Blend
It's being hailed as the "antidote to the workweek." We'll be the judge of that, Newman. As soon as we finish these TPS reports.
Try it with: pasta and grilled vegetables, like this Angel Hair Pasta Primavera
You can try the entire collection for $25 — that's less than the cost of some single bottles of wine, and enough to fill 2 1/2 wine purses (not that we're counting or anything). We'll let you decide if it's worth a spot in your grocery cart.
