Fans who have been feeling down about Maltesers only being available across the pond can now "look on the light side," as the U.K. candy has finally made its way to the States. After 80 years of popularity overseas, Maltesers are now available in stores nationwide.
Never had a Malteser? Imagine if a Whopper and an M&M had a candy love-child with a British accent. They're chocolatey, crunchy, light, and beloved in the United Kingdom. In fact, a recent report showed that the Fair-Trade candy accounts for nearly 30 percent of U.K. chocolate sales, and even de-throned Cadbury as Britain's most popular confectionery brand. Surprisingly enough, these candies were first sold as "energy balls," and rumor has it they were said to pack a weight loss-aiding punch. By today's standards, they're more treat than health food, but they certainly make a nice alternative to, say, a donut.
Snackers can choose from five sizes: Singles, a Theater Box, a Peg Bag, a Sharing Size Tub, or a Party Size Tub to get their candy fix, depending on the level of snack attack. Good news, though — Maltesers have retained their classic low-cal appeal, with a single serving cashing out at just 179 calories, according to the nutrition label.
