Since 1997, Starbucks has marked the holidays with special seasonal cups. Decorated with festive imagery or a solid color, Starbucks' holiday cups have always garnered attention—and sometimes even debate.

Today, the coffee chain announced its new holiday menu and also released a lineup of five new cups for the holidays with the theme "Share the Joy." The cup collection was designed by Bridget Shilling, a senior designer at Starbucks Creative Studio. There are four hot cups and one cold cup, each featuring sparkles. The hot cups are all designed using red, Starbucks green, and magenta.

"When we were looking at trends when designing this year’s holiday, we kept seeing bright, bold, uplifting colors," said Kristy Cameron, Starbucks' creative director, in a press release. “We found that magenta alongside the holiday reds and greens lifts the traditional holiday colors and makes the red look even brighter.”

Beverages will be served in the new cups starting on November 2. You'll never know which design you're going get (unless you're ordering an iced beverage), which is all the reason to frequent your local Starbucks this season. For holiday gifts or keepsakes, you can also check out the new reusable holiday cup collection.

Bauble Wrap

Shilling's favorite of the collection, this one features ornament shapes that embody gift wrap.

Peppermint Swirl

The inspiration behind this design (and my personal favorite) is the Peppermint Mocha. "This illusory cup design is inspired by sensorial movement and evokes the familiarity of tissue paper and the swirling shapes of peppermint candies,” Shilling said.

"I was thinking about a classic plaid scarf, but I wanted it to feel a bit more modern,” Shilling said.

Just like the name, this design was inspired by spools of ribbon.
