There’s much to love about Costco. It's massive superstore that houses a seemingly endless selection of household items, electronics, and of course, groceries. Costco's beloved food court and frozen-food offerings have made it a national treasure, and many customers feel a loyalty and enduring respect for the brand. But Costco is also known to remove fan favorites to make room for new items, sometimes to the frustration of customers.

There are warnings: Costco workers place the notorious “death star” asterisk on products to indicate it's going away. There are price codes, too. According to FinanceBuzz, Costco prices that end in .99 mean that you will continue seeing the item on shelves, at least for the foreseeable future. Price tags that end in .97, .00, or .88, on the other hand, signal that you likely won’t see more of the item. Along with Rao’s Alfredo sauce and Log Cabin Syrup, here are discontinued Costco products that many wish would make a return.

1

Pulmuone Chicken Dumplings and Pulmuone Thai Basil Dumpling

Customers have reported that two fan-favorite dumplings have disappeared: Pulmuone Chicken Dumplings and Pulmuone Thai Basil Dumplings were hit by the “death star.” You can still order various potstickers and dumplings directly from the company, though, like their Korean-inspired pork dumplings.

Half Sheet Cakes

Okay, so half sheet cakes have technically made a return–sort of. For years, customers loved the customizable, 12x16x3-inch cakes because they could serve nearly 50 people and cost less than $20. Then, during the pandemic, Costco swapped them out for 10-inch round cakes, sparking customer outrage and numerous petitions.

In 2022, Costco brought the cakes back. Customers can now fill out an order form in-person, and the cakes are ready within 24 hours. Prices have gone up, though: they now run $25 a cake.

Kirkland Parmigiano Reggiano Wedges

Discontinued this year, Kirkland’s Parmigiano Reggiano wedges were a favorite among anyone looking to elevate their salads and cheese boards. They were especially celebrated for their price–$12.49 per pound–so the 72-pound Parmigiano Reggiano wheel that runs $949.99 isn’t exactly an optimal alternative. Costco does still offer $16.99 1-pound containers of Kirkland’s grated and frozen Parmigiano Reggiano.

Tasty Bite Tikka Masala

Costco is known for its strong selection of easy-to-make, microwavable meals. Those items are ever-evolving, though, and this inexpensive packaged meal got the boot. For a while, it seemed like Tasty Bite lentils would at least offer disappointed fans some solace, but those are no longer available in the store's online inventory either.

Whether you loved them or hated them, Costco’s Take and Bake pizzas were a part of the store’s identity. During the pandemic, however, the pizzas disappeared from stores. Many online users speculated about the reasons why, including the constraints of the pandemic, cutting costs, and uneven sales.

Drinks aren’t spared from Costco’s regular inventory either. Kohana Organic Coffee Cold Brew Concentrate was cherished for its generous size and convenient packaging. It too is no longer on shelves, but not to worry: fans can still find the concentrate at Amazon.

This ready-to-cook seafood meal also got the boot. Pescanova Citrus Herb Shrimp, inspired by an Argentinian shrimp dish, was a steal at under $20 per bag. It too hit the clearance list in fall of 2022, and is officially discontinued at the store.

Litehouse Freeze-Dried Garlic

Litehouse Freeze-Dried Garlic is a home cook and chef favorite, and some say a jar is equal to 45 cloves of garlic. The item is still available through Litehouse, and they’ve since released a bleu cheese dressing that’s available at Costco.

Lava cakes remain a classic part of the American dessert canon, but Pots Fudge Lava Cake didn’t last on Costco’s shelves. Despite their appeal to chocolate lovers, these sweet treats got the asterisk treatment, and officially left shelves last year.

Hawaiian Hurricane Microwave Popcorn

As Eat This Not That reported, the microwave popcorn was among many favorites that got cut in 2021, and for some customers, the item even brought back memories. On Reddit, user @ladylilliani said: "Ten (or fifteen) years ago, I received one pack as a gift from a friend. Ever since, I've been looking for this. Amazon sells it sometimes, but at a ridiculously high price, so I never got it. This is a treat.”

Kirkland Signature Light Beer

Some customers weren’t a fan of the Kirkland Signature Light Beer, while others made their own commercials about the 48-pack of beer. The $22 price point was the likely draw here, but it wasn’t enough to save it. The light beer disappeared from shelves for good in 2018.

Polish Dog

Costco's famous hot dog gets a lot of attention, but the Polish Dog was almost as beloved. When it was discontinued in 2018, fans desperately tried to get it back by making videos, passing around online petitions, and tweeting about how much it meant to them.
