RSK Marble and GraniteWhile classic white subway tiles will always be an option for backsplashes, Guarnaschelli has seen more clients opting for a full slab backsplash to create a dramatic look in their kitchen.
“Some of it is functionality, as anybody who has scrubbed spaghetti sauce off white tile knows,” says Guarnaschelli. “But it’s also the look, like an antique brass panel for a mid century modern look, marble, or porcelain.

Stainless steel might no longer be the default option when it comes to swapping out your fridge or the dishwasher. “We’re seeing color,” says Guarnaschelli. “While some [appliance] lines cut back during Covid, now folks are picking blue refrigerators or white appliances with metallic hardware outside of stainless.” By opting for shiny metallic finishes or a big pop of color, a fridge can be a statement piece at the center of the room.
Where wallpaper once signaled dated or tacky, it’s become a chance to change the vibe of a room. “During Covid, I wanted clean and white spaces,” says Guarnaschelli. “Now, let’s wallpaper everything in our path and bring in some texture and color.”
She likes the brand Thibault and has been pointing clients toward vinyl grasscloth wallpaper because it adds texture and is durable. You can even clean it with bleach, which is helpful with wiping off grease or splatter in the kitchen.

Credit: AmazonWe’ll never not need caffeine, and that’s why a coffee bar has been a popular choice in years past. But Guarnaschelli says that the “coffee bar has evolved into a wellness bar.”
Whether it’s a cabinet tall enough to hold your Vitamix for a daily morning smoothie or well-placed outlets to power an electric kettle, kitchen designs are starting to incorporate wellness morning routines (which doesn’t hurt if you’re looking for some extra New Year’s motivation).
With new models in a range (pun intended) of sizes and finishes, induction ovens will find their way into more kitchens in 2023. “It’s demand across generations,” says Guarnaschelli. “Some are looking for cooking speed, while others are considering environmental or health benefits.”
Fans of induction cooking are drawn in by how quickly you can boil water and the stovetop's ability to hold temperatures.
