Many of our favorite fast food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s started with just a burger. They each crafted such a great sandwich that they built an entire restaurant that started with that one signature item.

But what goes into a great burger? For starters, it better not be frozen. As much as it is about the juicy, perfectly seasoned patty, the bun really makes or breaks it. Toppings go a long way too. Whether it’s just a classic burger or if the fixings are your not-so-typical ones to spice it up – we’re here for it. Lastly, it’s about that secret weapon every brand has that keeps us coming back for more. Here’s how some of our favorite fast food chain burgers stack up.

We love ourselves a Big Mac, but the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder with Cheese just hits the spot, and then some. It wasn’t too long ago when the menu item switched from frozen to fresh, which is a total gamechanger. McDonald’s captures such a unique taste in their burgers, sandwiched between their classic sesame seed buns that leaves us craving just one more bite.

Long before their competitors hopped on the “fresh never frozen” wagon, that was Wendy’s tagline for years. Their menu describes the Dave’s Double as “more meat means more to love” and we’d have to agree. Their burger offerings are the most generous from the size of the patty to toppings and never lacks quality.

The secret to Burger King’s The Whopper is that the beef is broiled to give it an ever so slightly charred exterior. We can definitely taste the difference compared to others. It’s topped with all the good stuff including mayonnaise, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, and onions.

Whataburger is a Texas staple and leans into their southern roots for menu items such as a Pico de Gallo Burger and their Hatch Green Chile Bacon Burger.
