Carla Hall is a quintuple threat: an acclaimed chef, author, model, television host, and activist. You probably know Hall as former longtime co-host of The Chew, but there's so much more to learn.

She's a Two-Time 'Top Chef'

Hall first became famous when she appeared on season five of Bravo's Top Chef. She quickly became a fan favorite and ended up returning to the show for its eighth season, Top Chef: All-Stars.

She's The Founder Of Several Businesses

After spending a few years post-grad as an accountant (yup, she has an accounting degree, too), Hall ended up starting a lunch delivery service called Lunch Bunch. That led to several other gigs, including a few executive chef roles in Washington at both the State Plaza Hotel and The Washington Club. Finally, she began Alchemy Catering.

Hall was a co-host of The Chew throughout its seven seasons from 2011 until it was cancelled in 2018. The show was canceled weeks after the NYPD confirmed they were investigating co-host Mario Batali after allegations of sexual assault against him arose, though he hadn't appeared on the show for months. She wouldn't confirm whether the accusations against Batali had anything to do with the cancelation: “If they did, [the show] was a scapegoat. But I have no idea.”

For several years, Hall has participated on the judge panel for the Annual National Gingerbread House Competition. Her go-to molasses? Grandma's Molasses.

She Owns A Lot Of Eye Glasses

Hall is known for her fun glasses and owns 70 pairs, which she keeps in a glass case. She usually travels with 10 pairs because she can't decide, but she always brings her favorite pair—pink with a 1960s silhouette. "I love those glasses," she said. "I probably wear those more than any others."

Hall has been an activist for years. Per her bio:

"She serves as a Board Member for the Pajama Program and GenYouth. Carla also actively works with Chef Jose Andres' World Central Kitchen Chef Network, DC Central Kitchen, The USO, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Feeding America, Women Chefs and Restaurateurs (WCR), and she serves on the advisory boards for the Edible Academy for the New York Botanical Gardens and for the Food and Finance High School in New York City. Carla is also a member of the James Beard Foundation’s Women's Leadership Advisory Committee and is the Culinary Ambassador for Sweet Home Cafe at the Smithsonian National Museum for African American History and Culture in Washington, DC."

When It Comes To Her Future, She's Open To Exploring

While she's open to the idea of a restaurant or a reboot of The Chew (with some restrictions), she has many more ideas when it comes to her future. "My big dream, I want to do a one-woman show that's live," she said. "Cooking, comedy, and storytelling that travels."
