Costco is so much more than a place to score great deals on bulk goods. In recent years, its baked goods, limited-edition items, and cult-favorite Kirkland Signature products have gone totally viral. Frequent shoppers know that the store can get pretty busy, especially during peak hours. Luckily, Costco is bringing back a major perk for some shoppers—especially those that don't enjoy the crowds.
Starting June 30, executive members will be able to shop an hour before the store opens, according to an email sent to Costco employees that was viewed and reported on by Business Insider. Most locations open at 10 a.m. (although this can vary), so in most cases, executive members would be able to shop starting as early as 9 a.m.
That extra hour comes with a cost, though. The Executive Membership is $130, twice the cost of the Gold Star Membership, which is priced at $65. Last year was the first time since 2017 that the company raised the price of memberships.
Executive Memberships include all of the benefits of the Gold Star Membership, along with an 2% reward on eligible purchases and discounts on Costco services. In addition to the new early shopping time, the retailer is rolling out two other perks: Executive Members will get $150 worth of benefits and savings on Costco services, along with a monthly $10 stipend for Instacart.
The email also stated: "Our Executive Members are our most loyal members, and we want to reward them for their commitment to Costco." Business Insider reports that according to Costco, these members make up 73% of total sales.
