A lot is happening this week: the Met Gala on Monday, Mother’s Day, and the Real ID deadline. Between regular errands like grocery shopping and prepping your Mother’s Day meal, you’ve barely got time for anything else, especially standing in those long AF DMV lines. Now, we’re not here to argue whether you should get your Real ID before the deadline (that’s on you and your schedule). But we are here to tell you that Krispy Kreme is giving away free sweet treats to help soften the DMV blow.
The donut brand made the announcement on Instagram: on May 7, aka the Real ID deadline, you can snag their signature Original Glazed donut for free. No ID (Real or not) or minimum purchase required.
"If the DMV’s on your calendar this week… we’re so sorry 🫠 But we’ve got your back (and your sweet tooth)," they wrote in the caption.
To grab your free doughnut, just swing by select Krispy Kreme locations (check here for the full terms)—either in person or through the drive-thru. The offer lasts all day, so whether you hit it up during your a.m. commute or swing by in the evening, you’re covered.
"The DMV can be stressful enough in normal times, but we know May 7 is going to be 'next level’ stress for many Americans trying to get their REAL ID," Dave Skena, the chief growth officer of Krispy Kreme, said in a news release, per USA Today.
Naturally, this sweet deal didn’t go unnoticed. Krispy Kreme’s offer had fans buzzing on social media. "One thing y’all going to do is give free donuts," one user wrote. Another added, "And this is why y’all stay in business, bc y’all do your thing 👏👏."
And speaking of grabbing that free donut…I had no plans to leave my house on Wednesday. (As a Type A personality, I got my Real ID months ago.) But for a free Krispy Kreme donut? Say less.
