I've been a fan of Poppi for years now. In fact, the prebiotic bevvy has become a mainstay in my refrigerator since my first sip back in 2021. As the cult-fave brand has grown (read: exploded into a pop culture phenomenon) and continued to drop new flavors, the selection in my own kitchen has only expanded.

Every time I pass the drink aisle at my local grocery store, I scan the shelves for Poppi's recognizable packaging. I'm always on the lookout for something new, so when I first spotted an unfamiliar lime and navy green can (reminiscent of a Mountain Dew) stacked next to other classic flavors, I tossed it straight in my cart.

Poppi released its latest soda flavor, Alpine Blast, earlier this month, and it's unlike anything the brand has on shelves already. As a dedicated Poppi fan, I knew that I had to give it a taste.

Despite the fact that I've never really been a fan of Mountain Dew, I was surprised by how much I loved the first sip. The can delivers a tangy, sweet citrus flavor profile and more caffeine than any other variety (which also feels reminiscent of the Dew I'd drink as a child at sleepovers to stay awake, naturally).

Like nearly every other Poppi, this wasn't nearly as sugary sweet and artificial as a traditional soda. Instead, it featured a refreshing citrus flavor that didn't overwhelm my tastebuds but still tasted like the OG soda. Instead of chemicals on the ingredient label that I wouldn't be able to pronounce, this achieved the right balance of sweet and tart notes with a blend of apple and lime juices. It even had the same lime green hue. However, the coloring was achieved with vegetable juice (healthy!) and turmeric (also healthy, slay!).

While most of the Poppi flavors are either not caffeinated at all or only have 32 mg, the Alpine Blast has 55 mg, which is as much as half a cup of coffee. It also includes just 5 grams of sugar, 30 calories, and 3 grams of fiber per can. For comparison, a Mountain Dew has 77 grams of sugar, 170 calories, and 0 grams of fiber.

So while I probably won't revert back to my middle school Mountain Dew habit anytime soon, the Alpine Blast has become a regular in my Poppi rotation—and won't be going anywhere. Gonna have to get myself the matching merch next.
