For the past year, Dubai chocolate has been absolutely everywhere. The viral treat, which was originally created by a chocolatier in—you guessed it—Dubai, spawned a wave of people not only clamoring to get their hands on the limited-quantity bar, but also numerous copycats and iterations of the delicious dessert. Typically made with chocolate, pistachio cream, tahini, and knafeh, Dubai chocolate has popped up all over the world, even infiltrating fast food menus at places like Shake Shack and Starbucks in drink form. Crumbl is rumored to be launching a cookie version of the treat, and, here at Delish, we developed life-changing Dubai chocolate brownies.

So it should perhaps not be a surprise that, with the influx of recipes utilizing pistachio and mouthwatering pistachio cream, there is now a worldwide pistachio shortage, according to both growers and wholesalers, reports the Guardian. The outlet notes that in the span of just one year, prices have surged from $7.65 to $10.30 a pound.

It seems as though pistachios , which are primarily grown in Iran and the United States, are more susceptible than other nuts when it comes to shortages. One reason is that pistachios are an "alternative bearing" nut, which means that while one year they may produce an ample-sized crop, the following year is likely to produce a less-than-average yield. Pair that with the fact that pistachio harvest yields are notoriously difficult to predict, and things can get dicey.

Additionally, due to space constraints and limited water supply, there's only so much pistachios that can be grown, reports Farm Progress. Add to that Trump's tariffs, and, suddenly, we're more limited in where our pistachio supply comes from.

Luckily, there are some super easy ways to work around the alarming shortage. For an equally nutty solution to your pistachio problems, sub in the healthiest nut (and the best for anti-aging): the walnut! The two are commonly found together in baklava as well as in Turkish delights. While pistachios are lower in calories than walnuts, the latter provides a great source of omega-3s, not to mention an array of other health benefits.

If walnuts aren't your speed, you can also turn to hazelnuts. Not only is this crunchier option a delicious addition to many chocolates, but you can also grab a jar of Nutella in lieu of pistachio cream to streamline your efforts in making your own iteration of Dubai chocolate. Nutella is a steal in comparison, and the perfect swap for when you just *need* need to bake our decadent pistachio brownies (we don't blame you).

So even though the beloved pistachio is making life for Dubai chocolate lovers a little more complicated, there are definitely easy and more affordable ways to achieve a similar outcome in the kitchen.
