When it comes to beer, people typically have strong preferences. Some might love (or hate) hoppy, aromatic IPAs, while others might prefer a light, crisp lager. But what about beer preference by region? A recent study led by Coffeeness, a coffee-focused website that publishes broader beverage-related studies, pinpointed the most popular beer in each state, and there's a clear winner, country-wide.

The analysis compiled mainstream American beers sourced from YouGov's Popularity Ratings and then used Google Trends to analyze search interest in each of the 50 states, plus Washington, D.C. A data visualization was then published by Visual Capitalist. (The study notes that these findings are based on search interest, not sales or consumption.)

Miller reigns supreme across a majority of the country, being the most-searched in 30 states. Coors follows—and not so close behind—in only eight states, half of which are in the Southwest. In third place, surprisingly, is Guinness, the only stout among the contenders.

Another surprising find noted in the study is the low search interest for Bud Light and Budweiser, which both have a strong presence in advertising. Researchers speculated this could be reto the 2023 Bud Light controversy.

The two outliers are Blue Moon and Corona, which each won in only one state—Colorado and Connecticut, respectively.
