I know we all have different tastebuds and palates. Some people (like me, lol) prefer spicy foods, while others enjoy sweet and tart flavors. Some may even like savory dishes. Regardless, we all have our preferences. But some taste preferences are generally accepted across the board.

For example, I’d say there’s a silent agreement that raisins don’t belong in carrot cake. Walnuts, maybe? But raisins? Absolutely not. However, according to some Costco shoppers, I’m wrong. Not just wrong, but I’ve apparently been denying myself the pleasure of real carrot cake.

It all started a few days ago when food influencer @photogami reviewed Costco’s beloved carrot bar cake.

According to their review, it's tasty and sweet with a tang, but it has raisins in it. Apparently, that’s a dealbreaker for many because soon, the comments on both Reddit and Instagram flooded with users debating whether carrot cake should have raisins inside.

“Adding raisins to baked goods is proof that villains walk among us,” one Redditor commented. “Threw it away last year because of this. Why people are obsessed with ruining carrot cake with raisins is beyond me. It’s like putting olives on pizza,” another wrote on the forum.

One person quickly defended the addition of raisins, noting that most standard carrot cakes always include them. “Bruh, it’s carrot cake. There will be raisins! 😂😂😂🥕,” they wrote, per Instagram. Another echoed this sentiment: “Dude! Carrot cake totally has raisins in it. We used to soak ours in port and make carrot cake with them. YUM!”

While it’s true that traditional carrot cake recipes typically include raisins, some people prefer it without. Really, it just depends on your palate and preferences. And if you’re on the anti-raisins side, Bundt Cakes offers the same sweet treat sans the raisins. So, you can still enjoy that carroty taste without the controversial ingredient.
