Some prefer death by chocolate, while others prefer lighter, fruit-forward options. And every country has its unique specialties—Greece is known for its baklava, and Spaniards can't get enough flan. Some desserts are more of an acquired taste, while others transcend trends and are beloved by all. So when it comes time to rank the best desserts in the world, things can get tricky!
Popular Instagram account @Pubity was up to the task and recently polled all their followers to determine which dessert would take the crown. The bracket started with 32 desserts, ranging from pastel de nata to macarons. Surprisingly, shaved ice took down Key lime pie in round two, and churros beat cheesecake in round one. The final duel was between tiramisu and black forest cake—and the competition wasn't even close. Tiramisu is officially the best dessert in the world, securing 72% of votes.
However, a quick peek at the comments section proved that not everyone agreed with the decision.
"Not better than ice cream," wrote one person.
"Y'all have terrible taste," wrote another.
Other people were quite vocal about their favorite desserts that didn't quite make the cut. "Tres leches got robbed, should have had at least a semifinals appearance," commented one person. "Churros over cheesecake is evil I don’t care what anyone says," lamented another.
