The Costco bakery might want to watch its back because there's a new dessert available in the warehouse's frozen foods section that has shoppers raving. The dessert that has fans rushing to their local Costco is Fujiya's Japanese Strawberry Sponge Cake, and it surfaced on Reddit last week.
According to the Redditor who posted about the $18 cake, it was just like the ones they tried while they were in Tokyo. The user offered additional details on the airy dessert, revealing that the sponge is a light chiffon and it's made of whipped cream, not frosting.
"Value is exceptional. It's less than half the price of what I could get at a local Asian bakery. It's made really well...I think I'll have to give that a 10 out of 10," said the Reddit poster in their video review.
There is a bit of bad news though. According to several users, the Japanese Strawberry Sponge Cake is only available in Northern California. As a result, people are pleading with the warehouse to bring the sweet treat to Costco stores nationwide.
"Manifesting for this to be in stock in SoCal soon," said one Redditor.
"Oh boy, I hope we get it here in [the Pacific Northwest]," another user added.
One person even urged their fellow Northern Californians to purchase the cakes so Costco will hopefully take note and offer the dessert in more locations.
"Assuming it's good, come on NorCal... let's buy these so the rest of our Costco friends can get them soon too," they wrote.
We love the teamwork!
