Hey, guys, it's Gabby. And we're going to be counting down 15 facts about Costco you might not already know. Number one, Costco has an absurdly generous return policy. People famously return used furniture that's over two decades old to Costco for a full refund. You can even return perishable items for a refund. We're not joking. Someone fully returned a TV that was still warm when you turned it off. Number two, even nonmembers can take advantage of Costco's low prices depending on the state you're in. You can get medication, alcohol and other items without having a Costco card. Also, did you know that you can use Instacart and Uber Eats to get stuff from the Costco warehouse without a card? It is still worth getting a membership, but you can still take advantage of Costco's deals with that one. Number three, how did you know that Costco sells caskets? Costco offers nine different casket styles that range from 1100 to 1500 dollars. And for reference, the average casket can start anywhere at 2 to 5 K. So at Costco, you're saving money in life and death. Number four, Costco keeps their iconic rotisserie chickens on shelves for 2 hours Max. Just to be clear, that doesn't mean they're unsafe to eat after 2 hours. But Costco just has really high standards for quality. So after 2 hours, Costco takes over to three chickens and repurposes them for things like chicken bakes or their prepared food items. So whenever you're shopping at Costco, you can be sure that the chicken you're getting is at peak freshness. Speaking of rotisserie chickens, here's fact number five Costco sells 100 million rotisserie chickens every year. I don't have anything else to add That's just objectively a lot of chicken. Number six, Costco sells more hot dogs than every Major League baseball stadium combined. For reference, there are 30 MLB stadiums that play 162 games every season. So that's saying something. Number seven. There is a secret symbol that will tell you when a product is about to be discontinued. If you're ever shopping at Costco and you see an asterisk in the top corner of the price tag, that's what's known as the Death Star. The Death Star means that the product is going to be discontinued either temporarily or indefinitely. It might not be gone forever, but it doesn't hurt to email your local manager to say how much you like that product, and there's a good chance that they'll bring it back. Number eight You really shouldn't sleep on the Costco Business Center. You may think that Costco's business centers are limited to companies, but every member can shop there and there's a lot of stuff that actually is worth buying. They have a great selection of kitchen supplies, knives, spices and really cheap produce. It's worth going to save a ton of money and then share it with your friends. Number nine, not only are Costco's products supersized, but so are their parking spots. On average, Costco's parking spots are about two feet wider than they are at other retailers. That means there's extra room to put your massive shopping cart. Number ten. Costco sells over 4 billion eggs every year. That adds up to over 11 million eggs sold every day. That's almost impossible to compute. Number 11. Costco is one of the nation's biggest car dealers. A lot of people don't even realize that Costco sells cars. But in 2021, they sold over 800,000 of them. So next time you're perusing Costco looking for food, maybe it's worth also grabbing a car. Fact number 12 is a bit of a niche one, but Costco has one of the most concise codes of ethics out of any major retail store. Most major companies have a really lengthy list of ethics, but Costco's is only 19 words, and it reads as follows Obey the law, take care of our members, take care of our employees, respect our suppliers, reward our shareholders. The end fact number 13. You can get really cool regionally specific products at Costco all over the country. For example, in Louisiana, you can get giant tubs of room to make gumbo. In Alaska, you can get reindeer sausage and in Hawaii you can get poi. So next time you're traveling, it's worth popping into the nearby Costco to see what stuff they have that's different than your local warehouse. Number 14, about 75% of Iceland's population has a Costco card. With a population of approximately 382,000 people. That means 287,000 of them are Costco members in Iceland alone. There are some right or die Costco fans in Iceland for real. And our final fact, the very first Costco hotdogs were sold from a sidewalk food cart outside the store. They actually sold these without permission from Costco corporate, but they liked the idea so much that they decided to instate them at all warehouses.
