Another day, another food recall. Luckily, the products affected should already be off of store shelves — you may just want to check your pantry or freezer in case you have any baked goods stored away that may be affected. The FDA has upgraded a previously issued recall for 60 types of baked products, including a variety of donuts sold at Dunkin', impacting around two million baked goods in the United States.

Due to concerns of potential listeria contamination, numerous FGF Brands' baked products, which in addition to being sold at Dunkin', are sold under private labels at grocery stores around the country and in Canada, were recalled by the manufacturer on January 7, 2025. Then, last week, the FDA upgraded the recall to a Class II. According to the FDA, eating a product with this classification can lead to "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

Affected products were produced prior to December 13, 2024 and include apple crisp donuts, French crullers, Just Baked pumpkin cake munchkins, eclairs, and more. FGF Brands said in a statement that the voluntary recall was "a precautionary measure based on non-product related findings" at one of its donut facilities in the United States — adding that no listeria was found in or around anything edible: "No donuts or food contact surfaces ever tested positive for listeria."

They also note that the recall was completed in early January, "and does not implicate anything that is currently, or was recently, on the market."

A full list of affected products can be found on the FDA website.

The CDC warns that listeria infection poses a particularly significant risk to pregnant women, newborns, adults 65 and older, and individuals with compromised immune systems, while other people can contract the infection but seldom experience severe illness.
