We've seen our fair share or bizarre restaurant rules lately, but we were pretty shocked to hear about this one. Bliss Restaurant in Florissant, MO, near St. Louis, has been going viral since it was revealed that the establishment has strict age restrictions for entry. Women must be 30 to dine at Bliss, and men must be 35.
"The restaurant is just something for the older people to come do, have a happy hour, come get some good food and not have to worry about some of the young folks who bring some of that drama," Assistant Manager Erica Rhodes shared with KDSK.
In a Facebook post shared in May, Bliss, a Caribbean restaurant, offered additional details on why they've chosen to enforce an age limit. Atmosphere, quality, and sustainability were among the reasons listed.
"To ensure a grown and sexy atmosphere, we require all guests to be 30 or older for women and 35 or older for men. This policy helps us maintain a sophisticated environment, uphold our standards, and support the sustainability of our unique ambiance," read the announcement.
"Recently, we have had incidents where our age requirement has been violated and put on social media," read the post. "To reiterate, Bliss Caribbean Restaurant requires all guests to be 30 or older for women and 35 or older for men. This policy is in place to ensure a mature, sophisticated, and safe dining environment for everyone."
The notice was met with hundreds of comments, mostly from people applauding the restaurant for its policy.
"Anybody upset just doesn’t understand what’s happening with these businesses being tore up by younger crowd," one person wrote.
"I was there last night and had a wonderful time. I love the age requirements," another user chimed in.
There were some concerns about date night from those with a bit of an age gap between themselves and their significant other.
"May I ask why the men have to be older than the women? I would love to be able to come with my fiancé (who's older than me), but he's not 35 for 2 more years," one person asked.
Lastly, there was one user who pointed out that the older crowd can also bring trouble.
"Some older people don't know how to act as well unfortunately," they wrote.
