It appears that a new challenger has quickly climbed the ranks in the soda wars. According to The Wall Street Journal, Dr Pepper has soared to the top of the list, becoming the country's second most popular soda, tied in the No. 2 slot with Pepsi.
Pepsi had managed to sit at the No. 2 position alone for decades before having to make room for Dr Pepper. And if you haven't guessed already, sitting comfortably at No. 1 on the list is Coca-Cola.
"The regular versions of Pepsi and Dr Pepper are neck and neck in a spot that Pepsi has held nearly every year for the past four decades, according to sales-volume data from Beverage Digest," The Wall Street Journal reports.
Although we're sure fans love the uniquely sweet and peppery taste of Dr Pepper, a lot of the brand's recent success has come through social media and marketing.
Just last month, social media was in an uproar over Pickle Dr. Pepper, a bizarre concoction made using Dr. Pepper and sliced pickles. There are countless videos on TikTok of users ordering the drink at Sonic, a drive-thru fast food restaurant.
And before there was the Pickle Dr Pepper, there was Dirty Dr Pepper. Although ingredients may vary slightly, one TikToker's recipe, which has received millions of views, calls for Dr Pepper, raspberry syrup, and coconut cream.
Watch your back, Coke.
