A Trader Joe's item that found viral fame just a few months ago is being recalled by the grocery store. Trader Joe's announced on its website on March 2 that it was recalling approximately 61,839 pounds of the store's Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings due to potential plastic contamination.

The USDA's website provided additional information on the recall, noting that the foreign material was "specifically hard plastic from a permanent marker pen." The USDA announcement also stated that the recall occurred following complaints from consumers reporting they found hard plastic in the dumplings.

The recalled Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings (SKU# 54988), which are produced by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corporation, have a best by date of 03.07.25 and lot code of C1-1 or C1-2.

Customers who purchased the Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings are being asked to discard the product or return it to any Trader Joe’s for a full refund. Additionally, those with questions can contact Trader Joe's Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817.

Late last year, the dumplings were featured in quite a few viral videos on social media thanks to a recipe hack that involved cooking the dumplings in broth. One TikTok in particular, which was uploaded by user @kalejunkie, has received nearly 3 million views.

The Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings are just one of a handful of items that have been recalled by Trader Joe's in the past few months.

Last year, in the span of just five weeks, the grocery store recalled six items, including Fully Cooked Falafel, Almond Windmill Cookies and Dark Chocolate Chunk, Almond Cookies, Unexpected Broccoli Cheddar Soup, Texas Tamale Company's Gourmet Black Bean Tamales, and Multigrain Crackers with Sunflower and Flax Seed.
